In the Spotlight: Christopher Reed
Patriot FC U19 Boys
Christopher played for our U19 boys team and has committed to play soccer at Del Val University this fall. He joined Patriot FC during his sophomore year and plays outside back. Chris had to overcome adversity when he sustained a level 2 ACL tear in his right leg shortly after joining the club. He had a soft return in his junior year and has been with the team through it all.
Read below for our interview with Chris and learn about what brought him to PatriotFC, how he battled back after injury and eventually committed to play college soccer.
What brought you to Patriot FC?
I was looking for a more competitive environment and Patriot had a fun atmosphere, great team culture and it really felt like home. I felt great team camaraderie and there was great training with Coach Gary as well. Patriot FC elevated my game.
What was your recovery like after your ACL tear?
A lot of PT, I give credit to Comprehensive Sports Care in Newtown for helping me in my recovery. I was able to stay a part of the team for 9 months while I was recovering and doing a lot of at home training.
What are some of your favorite moments playing for Patriot FC?
The players and coaches all get along well and we also all get along well with Coach Gary, he is a great Coach. One thing that stands out is our Captain Brody, he is a solid human and represents the team well, he is the type of player that helps out players on the other team as well as his own. Also, I remember at tryouts noticing right away that Jake had a heck of a foot on him!
What advice did Coach Gary give you during the recruiting process that stood out?
He recommended putting my academics first and then finding the right fit for soccer after that.
I used that advice in looking at colleges. I want to major in Sports Management/Business and I have a goal of being a soccer coach someday. Del Val has a good program and I also really liked the Coach, Coach Shaq, at Del Val for soccer.
What advice do you have for younger players who think they may want to play in college?
Keep training and start going to ID camps early. I went to ID camps for Arcadia, Del Val, Penn State and West Chester.
We want to congratulate Chris on his commitment to play soccer at Del Val and wish him lots of success in college and beyond. We hope to see him coaching on the sidelines someday in the future!
